It’s suddenly Winter!

Hola!

Up this morning at the usual time, and bathed and breakfasted by about 8 am.  As it turns out, winter seems to have descended upon Mexico City!  We heard it rain last night on the 23rdfloor, and the temperature was scheduled for quite a drop.  Well, this morning it was a very foggy and wet day downtown, although we didn’t realize HOW cold it was until we got out of the elevator on the ground floor!  Brrrrrrr… somewhere in the low 40’s!  (We have been so lucky with the weather these past two weeks – shorts weather until now, but this is definitely blue jeans, jacket and scarf weather.)
Salsa made from scratch at the table!

Salsa and guacamole!

Our HUGE Flautas!

My chicken fajitas

Along with recently made corn tortillas!

And Robert's garlic shrimp!

As we didn’t have far to go – the airport – today, we stayed in our junior suite until almost noon, when we checked out at the Executive Lounge and then headed downstairs to catch our Uber ride to the hotel at –actually, in– the airport.  Our driver, Carlos, was excellent, although it was so humid in his vehicle that it really was impossible to see out any but the front window.  He dropped us off at Terminal 1 - Puerta 5, as he wasn’t sure where the hotel was.  Turns out we needed Puerta 8, which was just a short walk down the corridor.

We are now inside Terminal 1.  Truly, we are “inside” the airport!  All we have to do is walk downstairs and there are restaurants, money changers, farmacias, etc.  It’s like a shopping mall, rather unlike any other airport I can remember. Our room, while quite compact –especially compared to what we have become accustomed to - is beautifully appointed, and we have a large glass wall that looks out over Sala E2 of the airport, with people coming and going. The hotel is on the third floor of the airport, and while it doesn’t have the amenities like an Executive Lounge, it is very comfortably appointed.  And, we won’t have too far to walk to get to our plane tomorrow morning!

We got here around 12:30 pm and fortunately, our room was ready.  We settled in, and then headed out to find something to eat for lunch.  From our window, we saw a second-floor restaurant Cuara Macara, which had some good TripAdvisor reviews, so we went there.  Excellent food – but just WAY too much!  We decided to split an appetizer order of shredded beef flautas, and then I wanted chicken fajitasand Robert ordered a garlic shrimp dish.  Well … to say that we could have both eaten the flautasand be full is an understatement!  Robert loved his delicious garlic shrimp, and I very much enjoyed my fajitas, but there was still too much food for two people!  No room at all for desert even!  (Although the hotel lobby does have some not-too-bad popcorn available!)

Got back to our room about 2:30 pm and Robert went back to work on Caltech things, and I took a nap! Oh!  One great thing about this hotel – they actually have a HEATING system that WORKS!  This was definitely lacking in both our Reforma and Puebla hotels, and Robert was mystified as to why no heat in NOVEMBER! Oh well!  Nice and warm in here!

I’m now putting the finishing touches to our blog, and Robert is napping.  Only photos we really have is of food … but that’s always a good thing, right?!

More later!
